Lake Oswego is just 8 miles south of downtown Portland and is a community set on gently rolling hills with mature trees and plenty of outdoor space with 539 acres of parks and open land. Lake Oswego has been named one of the country’s top ten most desirable places for parents to raise children. The excellent school district has attracted many people to the area looking to raise their children in a safe and thriving community.

One of the most popular entertainment spots among Lake Oswego residents is the Lakewood Theater Company. The Lakewood Theater Company is known as the cornerstone around which Lakewood Center was built. The theater company was founded in 1952, when a group of residents decided that the community needed a theater and organized a group knows as the Oswego Players to perform.

Another popular form of entertainment for residents is the Lake Oswego Walking Tour. The 4.4-mile walk takes you around Millennium Plaza Park, offering a beautiful view of Lakewood Bay, as well as the shops and restaurants, and then back to the origin of the mining town of Oswego. This is a great welcome for those new to the Lake Oswego community.

The original neighborhoods in Lake Oswego reflect an English style, with English cottage and Tudor revival homes designed by the architect Richard Sunleaf. The homes were built between 1920 and 1940, although today many new residents live in new developments.

Lake Oswego has 21 neighborhood associations and houses a population of almost 37,000 people. The historic homes are desirable because of their land and many residents will buy the homes and replace them with new ones. Many homes in Lake Oswego are within walking distance of the Village Center, where there are restaurants, shops and entertainment. Because of the excellent school system, the majority of residents in Lake Oswego are families with two or more children.
