Downtown Portland is a compact and walkable city with easy access to green spaces, dining, shopping and cultural offerings. The city has a diverse mix of retail stores, shows and restaurants including food trucks.

Things to do in Downtown Portland

Downtown Portland offers a wide array of different shopping choices, from national retailers to locally owned specialty shops and boutiques.

West End is within walking distance of central downtown and can be accessed by the MAX light rail and the Portland Streetcar. In the West End, there are chic boutiques like Frances May, Radish Underground and Canoe, which is a modern home and accessories store with quirky items. On the corner of West Burnside Street and Southwest 13th Avenue is the Black Box building is a home base for fashion. The Black Box building is the only retail outpost of the shoe giant Solestruck and Tanner Goods.

Downtown Portland also has big name stores such as Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Kate Spade, Louis Viutton, H&M and Apple along with many others. During the holiday season, pop up shops will also make their way to Downtown Portland, and some pop up shops become permanent. Boys’ Fort is an example of a pop up shop turned permanent resident and is the home to unique gifts and vintage men’s products along with custom-built furniture.

In Downtown Portland, you’ll also find anything from budget food, to food trucks to even fine dining at 5 star restaurants. All emphasize the seasonal and local ingredients true to Portland. For lunch, many locals enjoy eating at food trucks like Alder Food cart Pod. The Portland Farmer’s Market also has 3 locations that locals enjoy visiting to enjoy an afternoon picnic with fresh food. Tasty n Alder is located in West End serves brunch all day, with a more refined menu at night, each with global flavors.

There are plenty of bars, clubs, restaurants and events to attend in the Pearl District and Downtown Portland. Dance, grab a drink with friends or visit a few art galleries with co-workers to relax and enjoy a fun night out. One of favorite spots for locals is the Goodfoot Lounge, where people go for laid-back nights of dancing to all styles of music. The Brody Theater offers residents improv comedy shows and lots of laughter.
