Portland is an incredibly active city, not only is there plenty of outdoor space including parks, walking trails, hikes and outdoor sports, there are plenty of professional teams in the Portland area as well.

Portland Timbers

The Portland Timbers are a men’s professional soccer team that competes in the Western Conference of Major League Soccer. They are in the 18th club of Major League Soccer and the fourth franchise based in Portland to share the Timbers name, which originated in 1975 in the North American Soccer League. The Portland Timbers achieved early MLS success when they finished first in the Western Conference during the regular 2013 soccer season, clinching their first-ever playoff game in the franchise’s history.

Portland Thorns

The Portland Thorns is the women’s soccer team established in 2012. They began to play in 2013 in the eight-team National Women’s Soccer League. The Portland Thorns are owned by Peregrine Sports LLC, which also owns the Portland Timbers. The Portland Thorns is one of the two National Women’s Soccer League teams affiliated with Major League Soccer.

Hillsboro Hops

The Hillsboro Hops is the minor league baseball team in Hillsboro. The team was founded in 1955 as the Salem Senators and eventually became the Hops. The Hops moved from Yakima, Washington to Hillsboro for the 2013 season. The Hillsboro Hops is a Class A Short-Season team in the Northwest League and have been a farm team of the Arizona Diamondbacks since 2001. The Hillsboro Hops play at Ron Tonkin Field.

Portland Trailblazers

The Portland Trailblazers, known as the Blazers commonly, is the NBA team based in Portland. The Trailblazers have advanced to the NBA playoffs 3 times and won the championship in 1977. You can catch the Trailblazers playing at home in the Moda Center.
